Within the framework of the cultural activities organized by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR), Maj. Gen. Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, Arab Republic of Egypt, will deliver a lecture entitled “Development and its Role in Countering Terrorism.” This lecture will focus primarily on the rationale for selecting this topic, the main concepts behind development and counterterrorism, and how this relationship can help to achieve political stability and economic prosperity. The dialectics of terrorism and development will be investigated alongside the ways in which they interact within the context of political developments and security upheavals in both regional and international realms. Attention will be paid in particular to the current critical conditions that have followed the turmoil witnessed in some Arab countries over the past five years. The increasing threats and varied ideologies of terrorist groups will also be explored alongside the unprecedented atrocities that have since emerged. In a bid to contribute to the efforts in countering extremism and terrorism, practical development models will also be presented for further exploration.
