Lithuania: A Hub at the Center of Europe

The lecture discussed Lithuanian policy and political priorities in Europe and the world, underlined main economic, cultural and social achievements of Lithuania after the reestablishment of independence in 1990. It drew parallels between Lithuania and the UAE and suggested ways and forms for further Lithuanian-UAE cooperation and partnership.

Starting with a brief overview of the Lithuanian history, today’s main political and economic achievements of Lithuania were vividly exemplified. With special focus on Lithuanian economy, ways of deepening UAE-Lithuanian economic ties were envisioned.

The lecture gave special emphasis to Lithuania’s priorities within the European Union and other major regional international organizations and structures. Insights on Lithuania’s role in shaping EU policy toward neighboring countries and regions, particularly Eastern and Southern neighborhood policies and the Middle East peace process, were also presented.

Besides presenting political and economic aspects of the Lithuanian profile, the lecture provided brief but insightful outlook on today’s cultural panorama of Lithuania. It raised ideas about possible fields for intensified Lithuanian–UAE cultural cooperation.
