Defense Globalization: Next Steps for a 21st Century Industry

The speaker described the current trends in global
defense spending since the end of the Cold War, relevant
aspects of current defense procurement as well as research
and development expenditures in the United States,
Europe, Asia and the Middle East. He then proceeded
to discuss the general trend toward the globalization of
industrial economies and its implications for the ways in
which nations advance their security interests, as well as
the strategic alternatives confronting defense industries
around the world.
Finally, the speaker examined the potential impact
of the September 11 attacks on Washington and New
York on US defense policy and spending, and the
range of forces that will affect the nature and degree
of globalization of the defense industry in the coming
decades.
