The Development of Public Universities in the UAE: A Case Study of Zayed University

The speaker examined the potential role of public universities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with special reference to the establishment of the Zayed University. The speaker reviewed the objectives of Zayed University and the criteria that determine its plans and programs. The lecture highlighted the mission of Zayed University—its curricula, programs and colleges, contribution to scientific research, academic staff, buildings and equipment, and relations to the local community and the world at large. The speaker noted that the newly established university has already gained a good reputation, locally and abroad, and that it is regarded as yet another pioneering institution of higher education in the UAE.
