Globalization and Regionalization: The New Trend in World Politics

Globalization and Regionalization: The New Trend in World Politics

  • 18 January 1998

The speaker discussed common views and interpretations
of globalization, demonstrated the limitations of these
views and showed that globalization represents a
fundamental shift in the behavior of the modern world
economy, with ensuing implications for contemporary
world politics. He discussed the growth of economic
integration and that of institutional economic
cooperation as the two major trends of regionalization
and examined their relationship with globalization.
Finally, he argued that the management of the global
and regional orders cannot be undertaken separately,
and new forms of governance are needed.
