They Are Shaping Life: Cultivating Society in the UAE

Questions on humanity feature greatly in the lecturer’s literary experience, as she perceives the human being as having a great responsibility for the earth, where we create our own world. In considering the human experience in the United Arab Emirates, the speaker highlights how an exceptional experience was created in the UAE some fifty years ago by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may God rest his soul in peace). He established a unique and diverse Arab Muslim community that respects people for their humanity, irrespective of any other ethnic, ideological, class or racial considerations. The UAE’s enlightened development journey was then continued by Sheikh Zayed’s educated sons and family members, whom he raised to be humble and noble; unconditionally accepting all humans, regardless of their nationality, race or ideology. Sheikh Zayed instilled in them the principle of holding all humanity sacred. Therefore, subsequent generations of Emirati people have developed a society that cherishes human values and civilized behavior. It is a way of life that respects human rights, as values that have become an integral part of the Emirati mindset; values that will remain, even if laws, traditions and circumstances change.
