ECSSR: Death of King Abdullah is a Loss for all Arab and Muslim Countries

  • 25 January 2015

Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director-General of the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research, ECSSR, has said that the death of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is a loss not only for Saudi Arabia or Saudi people, but also for all Arab and Muslim countries and their people, and for the whole of humanity.

He added that the late king was a wise leader who dedicated his life toward serving his people, defending Arab and Muslim issues and advocating for peace, understanding and dialog between cultures, civilizations, religions and sects. Therefore, his memory will remain immortal in the entire human history, for the rich legacy of heritage, wisdom, courage and vision he left.

Dr. Al-Suwaidi added that Arab history will recall the wisdom of the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who played a significant role in ending differences between Arab brothers in many crises and that his strong and courageous decisions played a crucial role in addressing creative assault on our region in recent years, which many obscurantist forces tried to exploit by trying to interfere in the internal affairs of some countries, attempting to undermine security and stability, and fuelling religious, ethnic and sectarian conflicts in those countries. He made sincere calls for Arabs to embrace unity and end differences so that they address the common challenges they face. This remains a beacon illuminating the path to joint Arab action that he deeply believed in and worked for, be it through the GCC, the Arab League or via bilateral relations.

He stated that UAE-Saudi relations during the reign of the late King Abdullah represented an excellent and unique model of relationship between brotherly nations, and that the strong fraternal relations between the late king and President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and President of the ECSSR, have played a key role in strengthening relations between the two brotherly countries. This has also safeguarded the interests of the Arabian Gulf region and Arab countries in the face of conspiracies and attempts to sabotage them.

Dr. Al-Suwaidi added that he is confident that UAE-Saudi relations will become even stronger during the reign of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, because they are based on solid foundations of genuine brotherhood and sincere work for the sake of both Arab and Islamic nations, and that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will remain a strong supporter of Arabs and Muslims, a bulwark in the face of forces of extremism and terrorism in and outside the region, and a force sought by the people of the Arab and Muslim worlds for the defence of just causes at regional and international levels.

The ECSSR's Director-General concluded by saying, "The people of the UAE and I experienced feelings of grief and sorrow as soon as we learnt of the death of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz – God bless his soul. I absolutely believe that Saudi Arabia is firmly moving forward by virtue of its strong and well-established institutions, wise approach and the alignment of brotherly people of Saudi Arabia with its leadership. And while I offer my warmest condolences to the leadership and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the death of a great Arab leader whose memory will be perpetual in Arab and world history, I pray to His Almighty God to preserve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leadership and its people, and to sustain security, stability and prosperity."
