Celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the UAE Federation

As part of the country’s UAE National Day celebrations, the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies & Research (ECSSR) organized “Celebration of the 40thAnniversary of the Establishment of the UAE Federation” on 27–30 November 2011. The four-day event included a Symposium, a session on ‘Overview of Books on the UAE’ and another session on ‘Recollections of the Federation’. It was held at the ECSSR office complex in Abu Dhabi. A distinguished group of experts, officials and intellectuals participated in the activities of the event.

The two-day symposium addressed significant issues related to the progress of the UAE Federation since its establishment in 1971. These subjects covered the country’s history, geography, constitutional system, foreign policy, economy, social development, information and communications technology, and environmental issues.

The books under review included With United Strength: H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, The Leader and the Nation; Britain and Its Administration of the Trucial States 1947–1965; and Federation in the UAE: Theory, Reality and Future.

The ‘Recollections of the Federation’ were presented by a distinguished group of politicians and intellectuals. The recollections shed light on some of the most important events and situations in the Federation’s history.
