 2. Technical Services

The Technical Services Department performs a number of functions that ensure fast and accurate access to information. These services include:

Acquisitions

This division acquires various sources of information, including books, documents, maps, dissertations, statistical reports, and other materials.  Those responsible for acquisitions attend major local, Arabic and international book fairs in order to purchase the most recent materials in fields of interest to the Center. This is in addition to monitoring any library material of historic value, especially those related to the UAE, the Arab Gulf, or the Middle East in general.  Subscriptions to Arabic and foreign periodicals are considered essential sources of supplies, in addition to yearbooks, CD-ROMs and databases.

Cataloguing and Classification

In this field, the library carries out cataloguing and classification services for all sources of information such as books, CDs, electronic books, and maps by using the American Library of Congress classification system, adopting the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, second edition (AACR2.)

The electronic catalogue of the library, including author, titles and subject headings, helps researchers acquire the information they seek in materials available at the library, quickly and efficiently.
